Our Estate Juliard Vineyard is located in the heart of the Red Hills of Dundee. The original site was part orchard and part vineyard; planted with Gewurtztraminer, Chardonnay, and Reisling. Julia and Gerard (Juliard) purchased the vineyard in 1987 and a year later began clearing the orchard and planting Pinot Noir.
At that time, the “Pinot Craze” was just beginning and there was a great deal of angst involved in exactly how much Pinot to plant. In spite of being cautioned against planting Pinot Noir without a sales contract, Julia and Gerard were impressed enough with the deep richness and berry flavors that they eventually converted all but the Riesling to Pinot Noir.
Our South facing slopes are located at an elevation ranging from 420 to 500 feet. The location receives higher than average sunlight which allows the fruit to ripen earlier in the season. The deep-red Jory soil provides the distinct berry/cherry flavor predominant in wines from the Dundee hills.

Situated on 0.7 acres in the center of the vineyard; planted in 1969 and 1970, these vines have been sustainably farmed for nearly 40 years. The vines typically produce a light, fruity dry wine. However, when the weather gods permit, they develop a benevolent mold known as botrytis, or noble rot. The grapes then develop a honey-infused flavor for a rich and remarkably well-balanced dessert wine.
